چکیده

ABSTRACT The new design of a modified lower limb of the Polar-II pedestrian dummy for enhanced biofidelity requires establishment of an alternative instrumentation to load cells. The objective of this study was to determine injury thresholds for the thigh and leg of the modified dummy, and to establish an alternative measurement technique. FE pedestrian impact simulations were run using full-body dummy and human models to determine injury thresholds for the dummy. Quasi-static mid-shaft 3-point bending tests of the modified femur and tibia were performed to compare bending moments calculated from strains with those from support forces to validate the measurement technique.

A bio-mechanics based methodology to optimize vehicle front profile for pedestrian safety

Car front design is based on performance and passenger safety requirements by regulatory and rating tests. Pedestrian safety tests are mandatory in regions like European Union and Japan while other regions do not have such regulations. These tests involve impacts of head-form, upper leg-form and lower leg-form to simulate collisions with bumper, bonnet edge and bonnet regions while excluding re...

DENSITY AND QUALITY OF SPACES IN RELATION TO BUILT-FORMS: The Case of Commercially Active Centers in Addis Ababa (Pedestrian Density and Pedestrian Priority)

ABSTRACT A vibrant and commercially active center is often the result of interesting, diverse building styles and or built-forms, pedestrian density along with variety of quality public places where people feel comfortable, spending time and shopping items for domestic and commercial functions in cities like Addis Ababa. The scale and design of buildings, pedestrian density, and other phy...

Parametrization of Pedestrian Injuries and its Utilisation in Proving Traffic Accidents Course Using Injury Signatures and Contact Signatures

Background: The paper points out the present limited possibility of using the verbal description of injuries for the needs of experts from the field of road transportation as relevant criminalistics traces, as well as the options of the FORTIS system that creates a new area for a deeper interdisciplinary approach in the field of expert evidence. Further a description of how to create injury si...

Development of a New Biofidelic Leg for Use with a Pedestrian Dummy

A new mechanical leg has been designed and developed for use in impact tests simulating pedestrian accidents. The leg has been developed to be part of a new, 50th percentile male pedestrian dummy called Polar. The leg incorporates a knee that has the essential anthropomorphic features of a 50th percentile male knee and a deformable tibia. The leg has been designed to be biofidelic under lateral...

Using test dummy experiments to investigate pediatric injury risk in simulated short-distance falls.

BACKGROUND Short-distance falls, such as from a bed, are often falsely reported scenarios in child abuse. In attempting to differentiate between abusive and nonabusive injury, knowledge of factors that affect injury risk in falls could prove useful. OBJECTIVES To assess the biomechanics associated with simulated short-distance falls in children (one fall scenario, without attempting to maximi...
